Foreign Divorce Opinion Letter
If you were divorced outside Canada and wish to be remarried in Canada you
will need a legal opinion provided by an Ontario lawyer giving reasons why
the foreign divorce or annulment should be recognized in the Province of
Ontario.
Please provide the following information:
1. Original or court-certified copy of your divorce judgment.
2. statement of sole responsibility completed by both parties.
3. Completed Marriage Application.
4. A statement in writing from the divorced party confirming that at least
one party to the divorce resided in the foreign jurisdiction where the
divorce was granted for at least one year immediately preceding the
application for divorce.
5. Payment for the opinion letter in the sum of CAD $400 by money
order/certified cheque.
Please note that the opinion letter can be issued within three days of
receipt of all the information listed above.
